Joint Programmes

Supporting Research Programmes according to Article 169

Article 169 of the EC treaty (now article 185 in the Lisbon treaty) enables the coordination of national Research Programmes (Joint Programmes), which are then organised and run by several Member States or Associated countries. Swiss researchers can participate in the following programmes:

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)
Aims to improve the quality of life for an ageing community via innovative Information and Communication technologies, whilst considering new markets and the avoidance of increasing social costs.

EUROSTARS – in close collaboration with EUREKA – aims to support research intensive SMEs and improve their research and innovation capacity. 

European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP)
The European and Clinical Trials Partnership for Developing Countries (EDCTP) aims to improve the development and evaluation process for new vaccines and medication for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis.

European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP)
This initiative brings together National Metrological Institutes from 22 participating countries, including Switzerland.  Currently in the final stages of approval by the European Parliament and the European Council this project aims to align and enhance national metrology research projects.
